Fourth defendant in gang rape case changes plea to guilty

He received a five year sentence

In October of 2012, four Pittsfield teens were arrested after being connected with the gang rape of a UMass Amherst student in her dorm room on campus.

More than three years later, three out of the four defendants – Emmanuel Bile Jr., Justin King, and Adam Liccardi have been found guilty on several counts and were appointed sentences ranging from 8-12 years in prison following lengthy probation time.

Defense attorneys for the suspects argued that the sex was consensual.

Recently, the trial for the fourth and final defendant Caleb Womack was underway and jury selection was about to start.

However, as of this morning, Caleb avoided appearing in court by changing his plea to guilty for reduced charges of rape, indecent assault and battery.

The spokesperson for the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, Mary Carey, told 22News that Womack will be sentenced to five years in jail, the shortest term out of the four rapists, along with 10 years of probation.
