Meet the team behind Divy, the new UCSB app behind your next million

It’s all about getting in early

These days, it seems as if a new start-up is popping up wherever you look.

There’s so many, in fact, that a lot of people forget that they have to actually start somewhere before they go viral. With Facebook, Harvard was the first university to get connected. With Divy, Gauchos will now have their own opportunity to gain a “first access” pass to an exclusive company.

Six students from UC Santa Barbara (Paul Turrubiartes, Timothy Baer, Jithin Vellian, Kirby Toomey, Tae Kim, and Teniola Adedeji) have been turning our campus into an incubator for the new and emerging multi-millionaire dollar app.

With backgrounds in TMP, Economics, and Political Science, the Divy team is exclusively introducing the app to their classmates and friends. The team hopes to promote investment opportunities and financial awareness throughout our campus through legitimate investment experience.

And people say UCSB is a party school…

By providing important financial knowledge to us somewhat ignorant college students, Divy manages to stay relevant and helpful amidst a sea of competitors.

By the end of the quarter, more than 300 UCSB students will be specially invited to beta-test Divy. After joining, these students will begin their journey down the road to becoming emerging investors.

On the Divy app, hundreds of Gauchos will go against the grain (as we usually do) and will continue to shatter the stereotype that students can’t be investors. So the next time you pas someone walking through the Arbor, check yourself –  they might not actually be buying snacks and Subway. They could be buying stocks like Apple or Nike on Divy instead.

As college students, we all want to make more money, and we’re starting to figure out it doesn’t take an A in Econ 1 to learn how to invest.

“Divy is providing a platform for Gauchos to learn about financial literacy by creating an investment portfolio for less than a plate of Freebirds nachos,” says Kirby Toomey, an instrumental member of the Divy team. “Divy is an affordable way for college students to invest in their future. It’s empowering, it’s accessible, and the possibilities down the road are endless.”

As an educated college student, there’s no better time to start growing your savings than now. There’s also no better time to learn to invest.  As we exit our childhood and reach the beginnings of adulthood, it is important for us to understand how money works, how it moves, and how we can use the money we actually do have to our benefit, because as we all know, even though we’d like it too – money doesn’t grow on trees.

The app is currently in closed Beta. Keep an eye out for the wide launch this fall. Take the opportunity to sign up for the wait list on https://divy.com/get-access and like them on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/divyinc/#
