Meet the guys trying to eat in every restaurant in IV

Josh and Adrian are touring IV to find the best eats

Adrian Molzon and Josh Swedelson are currently in the midst of an epic journey to sample the cuisine of every single restaurant in town. With almost 500 Instagram followers along for the ride, the notoriety of these two pink-shirted food critics is quickly spreading.

Understanding the method to their madness lies in their patent pending rating system of the 1 – 5 moon scale. With waxing and waning crescents to symbolize partial scores, Adrian’s moon scale is clearly innovative and should be applauded.

But what would drive these fourth year foodies to take on such an ambitious task as this? The fame perhaps, or as others have speculated…the free guacamole? Restaurants like traditional Mexican grill El Sitio offered the two intrepid food adventurer’s free guac and even serenaded them with a mariachi band as they ate.

But this kind of special treatment is not why Josh and Adrian are doing this food tour, and they stated in an interview that, “Such generosity would never affect the final review score [we] gave a restaurant.” Objectivity and preventing bias was clearly important above all else to the duo.

They decided to do the project to cap off senior year. They said: “We conceived this idea because we wanted a senior capstone project to commemorate our time in IV, we like to eat we like to cook, so this would be a good way to commemorate that”

They say that their only regret is “not starting earlier” in their quest to hit all 67 restaurants in Isla Vista. With so little time left before they graduate, they admitted ” We don’t even go grocery shopping anymore, all our meals are in restaurants in IV.”

In the same interview, the pair told me how they can have a commanding presence when they enter a restaurant, with employees and guests alike in both awe and apprehension at the sight of two hungry college students wearing a t-shirt with their own faces on it.

But their fame has spread far beyond IV. They spoke of how they were recognized at Coachella for their porject, just because they were wearing the famed pink tees.

This apprehension is not always unwarranted, which became clear after hearing about Josh and Adrian’s controversial Santorini Grill review. Receiving a salty 2.25 moon score, many found the critique of the UCEN’s gyro factory to be overly harsh. Yet Josh and Adrian stand by they score, saying that they have undertaken this food tour in the search for truth and great flavor, not simply to please the masses.

Josh and Adrian plan on continuing their food tour until every single box on the back of their t-shirt has check mark through it. Follow along with their Isla Vista food tour on Instagram, and look forward to upcoming merch with  their two handsome faces on it.
