Wilmington, Delaware was the best place to grow up

The things every Wilmington hometowner would recognize

I’m sure you’re asking “where is Wilmington and why is he talking about this?” Well, I came to Santa Barbara a couple years ago because -as many people in my hometown- I wanted to live the “California Dream” you know? Nice weather, nice people, beautiful places and such a great lifestyle.

I lived in Wilmington for almost 18 years, until I had to decide which University I wanted to attend. I chose UCSB because I found in there a little bit of my hometown as well, and because my dad was living in Santa Barbara.

There are not many Wilmingtonians around here but, I want to share 10 essentials every hometowner would recognize and maybe, you would realize that it’s actually a charming place as well:

No taxes! We are lucky to be one of the 5 states in the United States without sales tax. When I first came to California and went shopping I was really surprised that every time I went to the cashier I ended up paying more than I thought.

Wilmingtonians are hopeless romantics! There is romance at the famous pier or many couples walking at the large coastline. Do you want some ideas for Valentine’s Day? You know what you have to do, ask a Wilmingtonian.

Wilmingtonians support local business! Even when the city has become a national financial center, we all know many famous companies that have become nationwide and its main office is located here in Wilmington! We’re so proud that we eat local, move around by local drivers, buy at local boutiques, etc.

#Every new mom starts shopping at Shopmamie and every dad knows that for picking the perfect outfit you should go to Men’s Wearhouse.

We love wine and we know how to taste and enjoy it. The Wine and Ale Trail stretches from Wilmington all the way to the coastline with beautiful spots and landscapes.

You can satiate your hunger with the best, cheapest, and fastest pizza slices at Margherita’s.

There’s no place on earth with fresher seafood (especially crabs) than here. Eating it every week is as common as burgers and fries in all the US.

Every kid in town has been to the Playhouse theater, but it’s not all fun and games. We also love exercising. In Wilmington we have various running events during the year and the citizens really enjoy attending this events and training to participate, Wilmingtonians also like to practice paddle and be sure every house has at least one bike for cycling. We take care of our bodies and nature at the time.

Do you think just New Orleans know about Jazz? Wilmingtonian’s love jazz, that’s why we have one of the biggest festivals of jazz in or hometown and it’s for free! We all have been in there at least once in life.
