BREAKING: Classes canceled after fire in Torrey Life Sciences

The fire has now been extinguished

At around 2.50pm a fire was reported in Torrey Life Sciences and the building was evacuated immediately.

Hundreds of students and teaching staff were evacuated following a fire in a lab that filled the halls with thick black smoke. Four fire engines responded to multiple 911 calls made by students.

“It wasn’t a small fire, I was kicked out of lab because of it. There was lots of smoke,” said Lexi Skovran, a Junior who was in the building for her Physiology and Neurobiology lab.

No injuries have been reported as of yet, however many were still inside the building up until the point that the blaze was extinguished.

Multiple firetrucks and a plethora of emergency staff responded to the call

“I was in the greenhouse upstairs the whole time and didn’t even notice the fire,” said Griffin Struyk, a senior MCB major.

The blaze has since been extinguished without casualties and classes in Torrey are canceled for the rest of the day.
