A Christmas miracle: UConn football’s bowl game is here

We take on Randy Moss’s alma mater on Boxing Day

The Marshall Thundering Herd and the UConn Huskies will be playing on December 26th in the St. Petersburg Bowl. This is the first time in five seasons UConn is going to a bowl game. And the sense of excitement surrounding this opportunity isn’t as big as it should be.

This is a great opportunity for UConn to solidify itself as a program that’s moving forward and can compete on the national level. UConn can demonstrate it’s now out of the dumpster. It’s a Christmas gift to be able to watch UConn football in late December.

With a solid win here, UConn will show it can compete in any conference with a historically great team like Marshall.

Marshall University reached the national recognition with the movie, We Are Marshall. This movie stared Matthew McConaughey and showed how Marshall University was able to overcome the massive tragedy in front of it.

We are in for a solid fight with the current Marshall team. Their coach Doc Holliday was a vital resource for Urban Meyer at the University of Florida and some believe he’s one of the greatest recruiters alive. This team finished ranked #22 last year and is currently 9-3.

The program is an offensive machine that can destroy defenses in front of them. This program has seen some great players come out of it. Debatably, the greatest wide receiver of all time Randy Moss, and former pass completion record holder, Chad Pennington are both alumni.

Here’s the thing. Give Bob Diaco a week to prepare for a team and he will find every single weakness they have.

This is the same coach who came up with the defensive plan to beat the thirteenth ranked Houston and the plan muck up Mizzou’s offense. UConn just needs this win to demonstrate that we can compete outside of the American Athletic conference.

At first I wasn’t that excited about this bowl game for UConn. But, eventually I realized this is just step one for UConn. The future is looking bright for UConn.

A win against Marshall can demonstrate we are finally out of the dumpster fire of college football.
