UCLA alumna Nasim Pedrad cast in the live action version of Aladdin

Another reason to see it besides Hot Jafar

UCLA alumna and former member of Spring Sing’s Company Nasim Pedrad will star in the live action version of Aladdin directed by Guy Ritchie.

Pedrad, who was part of SNL’s cast for five seasons and currently has a recurring role on New Girl, will play a role created specifically for the film. Her character, Mara, is a friend of Jasmine’s and will serve a comedic, supportive role.

Pedrad will star alongside Naomi Scott (Jasmine), Mena Massoud (Aladdin), Will Smith (Genie), and Marwan Kenzari (Jafar). Interestingly, both Kenzari and Pedrad have received seemingly more attention for their roles than the leads. Kenzari has recently been the talk of the town for being quite the snack. And fans of Pedrad are excited to see her in this role, though some think she would have fared better as Jasmine.

No matter your opinions on the casting choices, Pedrad’s role is sure to be a great source of Bruin Pride.
