Powell Cat named honorary mascot with statue in its likeness to be put up Fall 2017

The statue will be installed next to the Bruin Bear next school year

The Powell cat has been a staple to all students that have frequented by the Powell Library over the past year, quickly becoming a student favorite, uplifting bedraggled student hearts everywhere with the its appearances on campus.

Some have even said that seeing the Powell Cat during finals week gives you blessing galore.

But earlier this week, the Powell Cat stepped up in rank today and now, by the power vested in Gene Block, will become an honorary mascot for UCLA. Gene Block stated in an email to The Tab that “we realize how much the Powell Cat means to student culture and want to immortalize it so that future generations may also benefit from the joy our beloved furry friend gives to us.”

Although the Powell Cat was adopted by a Powell Librarian last quarter, it now seems it will be adopted into all of our hearts by the legs of the Bruin Bear this coming September.

There will be an unveiling of the statue in Week 1 of Fall 2017. You can see a picture of the statue that will be placed at the feet of the Bruin Bear here.
