UCLA Dashew Center reaches out to international students after Trump travel ban

If you do have any questions reach out the the Dashew Center

Yesterday morning an email was sent out by Shideh Hanassab, director of the Dashew Center for Internation Students and Scholars, addressing the executive order signed in by President Drumpf that effects seven countries that include Yemen, Somalia, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lybia, and Sudan.

This is after UCLA officially took a stance against the immigration ban from the seven countries.

“The Dashew Center strongly recommends that citizens of the countries listed in the EO, even those who hold a valid U.S. visa, and dual nationals (people who were born in the designated countries, but are now citizens of another country), do not travel outside the United States during the 90-day ban,” the email said. Already, people who were midair during the signing of the executive order were detained in airports, and even professors have been prevented from reentering the country.

The center also mentioned the FAQ section available to students, the UC Student-Worker Union though was of the upmost importance to share where possible.

The Dashew Center also addressed those who hold green cards. They said, “U.S. permanent residents are also recommended to refrain from travel outside of the U.S., as entry to the U.S. for green card holders will be determined on a case-by-case basis, as confirmed in another statement from DHS.”

If any students or scholars have questions, the Dashew Center is holding a “Reflection and Information Session” for students in the Covel Southbay Room to which you can reserve here.

Hanassab also urges that if you have any immediate questions or concerns about your status in the U.S., please do not hesitate to contact them at 310-825-1681.
