It rained in LA and everyone went ballistic

Seriously, it was intense

This morning, Los Angeles’s dry spell was interrupted by a splash of rain.

And people couldn’t deal.

UCLA students frantically brought out their rain jackets, hooded sweatshirts, and umbrellas for the first time in what felt like forever. Warning texts were sent to family and friends to drive safe, and students hurried between buildings to escape the foreign droplets.

However, not all response was frenzied – in this California drought, any rain was cause for some celebration.

Rebecca Ki, an undeclared second-year student, embraced the weather with profound spirituality.

“I love it! 10/10 would rain again,” she said when asked about her thoughts. “I crave the physical representation of rebirth to remind me that everything on this earth is ephemeral.”

Other students were distracted by looming midterms, and had less time to enjoy this gift of nature. “Is it really rain or just the tears of students taking their midterms?” asked Meredith McCollum, a first-year American Literature and Culture major.

Unsurprisingly enough, the rest of LA quickly caught on to realize the magnitude of what happened today. #LArain was in the top five trending topics on Twitter this morning, and people were not shy about freaking out.

SoCal residents experienced both confusion and panic

Some people turned to memes to express their emotions

Others simply celebrated

Others still were impartial, making jokes at LA’s response to the rain

Nevertheless, it was a blessed day

There’s no telling when this will happen again, but at the moment, life is resuming as normal: dry, hot, and backed up.
