We spoke with KDVS about the ASUCD budget cuts

Picnic Day isn’t the only on-campus coalition that will be affected

If you’ve been following our reporting on the breaking news about ASUCD’s budget crisis, you’ll know that we’ve been in touch so far with the Chair of Board of Directors of Picnic Day Grace Scott.

Today we also were able to reach Olivia Henderson, General Manager of KDVS about how the cuts may affect the on-campus radio station.

Olivia said: “ASUCD is not in a good place financially. This is something I understand and I think all unit directors should understand. ASUCD and every unit that is part of ASUCD is having to take cuts. These cuts may create more difficulties for KDVS, but as the General Manager my goal is to keep the station afloat.”

“Every hurdle that is thrown at us in these trying financial times we can meet, but we can only meet them if every unit works together with ASUCD.  Financial stability is the only thing that can keep ASUCD around. If ASUCD fails all of its units will fail and that is something I don’t want to happen. Not just for my unit, but for every unit.”

“If budget cuts and tightening our spending belt is what has to happen, then I am up for it. I’ll do what ever it takes to help KDVS and in turn ASUCD to be around for future generations of UC Davis students. To help remedy the financial strain KDVS holds two fundraisers every year, once in the fall and once in the spring along with other various money making techniques, which includes DJing events, and on-air sponsorships. ”

So far we have not received any budget proposals from ASUCD, although Budget Hearings are a mere 2 days away.

Update to follow.
