Berkeley homeless protest for affordable housing

They are set up in the ‘Gourmet Ghetto’

A group of Berkeley’s homeless community has set up a tent camp in the ‘Gourmet Ghetto’ neighborhood to protest the lack of affordable housing.

Though homeless shelters are available, this group is requesting permission to set up their tent camps on Berkeley city land while they continue to search for affordable housing.

Business owners have expressed their worry that the homeless camp might drive away business, but other community members sympathize with the homeless camp’s message.

Berkeley police have been raiding such encampments, including one two weeks ago on Ashby.

Updates to follow.
