Police hunt for man who kissed female students without their consent on campus

They are looking for a White man in his fifties

UCPD has issued a report of at least two, possibly more, sexual assaults and possible battery near Memorial Glade on the UC Berkeley campus.

According to the campus advisory message sent out by police, “On the afternoon of Tuesday, July 5, 2016 a male suspect approached and kissed two or more female summer school students on the UC Berkeley campus without their consent.  He may also have committed sexual battery by touching at least one female inappropriately through her clothing.”

UCPD have identified a person of interest, who is described as follows:

“A White male, about 50 years old (but who may seem younger in appearance), about 5’09” tall and 135 pounds, with brown hair and brown or hazel eyes.  Some might have observed his prominent cheekbones and/or noticeably dark beard stubble on his face.  He was possibly dressed in a casual manner and carrying a camera, skateboard and/or backpack.”

UCPD requests that anyone with any information regarding these crimes or similar incidents let them know at their main office, (510) 642-6760 or 1 Sproul Hall.

The advisory message also contained three important safety tips:

“If someone approaches you or touches in an inappropriate manner, try to get away and call out for help.  Dial 911, call 510-642-3333 or activate a Blue Light emergency phone.

“If you start to feel concerns about a person or a situation, trust your feelings and try to remove yourself from the potential threat, even if it is someone whom you know.

“A wide range of victimizations, separate from rape or attempted rape are considered sexual assaults. These crimes include attacks or attempted attacks generally involving unwanted sexual contact between victim and offender. Sexual assaults may or may not involve force and include such things as grabbing or fondling.”
