Urban Dictionary: Temple University edition

No matter who you ask, everyone has their own different opinion on Temple. For better or worse, there may never be a full consensus on the university but we’re ok with that.

It has become almost humorous to hear the different opinions and beliefs on the campus, its students, and our sports teams. The best comparisons come straight from the university and the students themselves.

We decided to fact-check Temple University’s website by comparing it comments left by past students on Urban Dictionary.

When describing the campus, Temple has a very unique way of describing our location.

Temple's Definition: "Each of our distinct campuses has its own personality and environment, from urban to suburban to international."

Urban Dictionary's Definition: "Temple University is the Harvard of Philadelphia. Not really, but the students could kick any Harvard boy's ass because Main Campus is in the ghetto. Don't bother going to the Center City campus unless you want to get mugged, Ambler Campus is a joke, and Tyler is the art school… with artsy people. Definitely the best university ever. Temple is better than Drexel, Penn, and St. Joe's combined. Seriously."

There seems to be a difference in opinion of which celebrities have done the most for the University

Temple's Definition: Philadelphia is your classroom: ​Ben Franklin was here—and so were Tina Fey, Margaret Mead and Questlove. Philadelphia has produced and been shaped by founding fathers, brilliant artists and groundbreaking scientists.

Urban Dictionary's Definition: "Temple is the best school in philly. and it is also represented in the "Boys II Men" Music video for cowtown philly with a flag rested upon a chair. go look."

Temple thinks more highly of itself than Urban Dictionary does

Temple's Definition: "Rankings: From academic excellence to environmental responsibility to breakthrough research, Temple ranks in the top tier. That means your diploma will take you further, whether you’re competing for an internship, applying to grad school or interviewing for your first job."

Urban Dictionary's Definition: "It's not the Harvard of Philly, it's the Princeton on Broad Street. Or at least that President Adamany's dream."

Well, it could be worse.

There's a 99% chance this guy didn't get into Temple.

They also disagree on what parts of the University to highlight

Temple's Definition: Fast Facts: Temple University is a public, four-year research university in Philadelphia and a national leader in education, research and healthcare.

Urban Dictionary: "The best university in Philadelphia. Anybody who thinks that the football team is bad, is right, but , because Temple is in the hood, means that the basketball team reps it every year, too bad they do not have the funds to get the players that will bring the to a national championship. If Temple was not a poor school, they would win every year. Try and be any North Philly team."

Oh, so that's where my tuition goes.
