I followed an aspiring Temple photographer for the day in Philly

Drake isn’t the only one with views

Aside from being the kindest soul, Freddie McNamara is an extremely talented photographer and student at Temple University. He aspires to work in the photography industry one day and loves capturing raw moments on the street. He’s known for finding unique spots and taking authentic snapshots of the city’s skyline on his Instagram.

I had the pleasure of tagging along with him while he showed me some of the coolest free views of our favorite city from Cira Green off of 30th Street to the South Street bridge.

I asked Freddie what he loves most about taking photos in Philly and he said, “I love trying to see the city in new ways and love when others see it through my eyes.”

Cira Green at Centre South Campus in University City was our first (and my favorite) stop. It’s such a cool and quiet outdoor area located between two high-rises looking over the city. I loved sitting on the lawn while Freddie did his thing!

More Cira Green.

The city lights of Philadelphia shine in the night from the South Street Bridge.

Freddie shared that he started his passion for photography right before his senior year of high school, but this grew to new heights once he arrived at Temple University and began exploring the city.

What most people don’t know about our city is the amount of locations we have to explore that are both free and easy for photos. From the Liacouras parking garage to the Montgomery parking garage–these locations are at our reach for Philly’s best views of the skyline.

In between classes, you can catch this view of Philly’s skyline from the Liacouras Parking Garage.

What is your all time favorite place to take pictures?

“The Spring Garden Bridge has a dope view of the skyline and is perfect when capturing light trails with the skyline in that back. I love shooting at night and during sunset.”

Check out what he means in the photo below.

Just a stroll away from the Art Museum, the Spring Garden Bridge has incredible views both during the day and at night.

Have you ever been kicked out of a place for taking photos?

“Actually, I just got kicked out of The Rittenhouse Hotel.”

Freddie shot the Ben Franklin Bridge from a unique angle by the water.

My final question for Freddie was, “What is your advice on taking the perfect shot?” He said, “I would say to shoot as much as possible and always have a focal point so people know what to look at. Also, learning how to edit is what will really make a great photo.”
