Temple pays tribute to trans woman killed in Philadelphia

Kiesha Jenkins was killed early Tuesday morning

Temple alum Kiesha Jenkins was shot and killed after being dropped off by a park on 13th and Wingohocking Street yesterday.

According to investigators the 22-year-old was approached and assaulted by five to six men, after which one pulled a gun on her and shot her twice. She was pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital.

Kiesha, a trans woman, was a North Philadelphia native and attended Temple University. Her murder sparked a lot of support and conversation on social media about recent violent crimes against transgender women.

All over Twitter and Facebook people voiced their opinions and paid tribute to Kiesha using the hashtag “SayHerName.”

Police have not confirmed a motive yet in this potential hate crime.
