BREAKING: the mumps vaccine might not be as effective as we think

Allegedly, Merck & Co. defrauded the US by faking a vaccine efficacy rate of 95%

PSA: If you’re in line to get your Mumps booster shot, ~GET OUT~

According to a federal whistleblower lawsuit filed in 2010, the drug is far less effective than has been advertised.

The seven-year-old lawsuit claims that company officials of Merck & Co., (the company that is the sole provider of the mumps vaccine in the United States), knew that there would be a resurgence of mumps outbreaks. According to the lawsuit, it was known that the effectiveness of the vaccine would deteriorate since its introduction in 1967.

Allegedly, Merck & Co. defrauded the US by faking a vaccine efficiency rate of 95% – supposedly the real efficacy rate is much lower, which has then allowed the vaccine to linger and significant outbreaks to continue to occur.

The company denies the allegations, and the federal government has declined to join the suit.

The suit might finally go to trial next year, but with SU in the middle of an outbreak, what does this mean for us?
