Lucy’s is back and we’re HYPED
There’s only so many times you can go to Harry’s and DJ’s in one semester
Last summer, a handful of bars and restaurants close to the hearts of many Syracuse students were town down to make way for a new apartment complex. The Orange Crate Brewing Company, popularly known as Lucy's, was one of two bars that was demolished.
'Cuse students mourned the loss of Lucy's, but not for long. A building nearby the beloved bar that used to house Brugger's Bagel store was up for rent and in need of business just feet from Lucy's previous location. Just when it felt like every location was going to be torn down, one remained standing and Orange Crate decided to reopen in it's spot.
Last Friday on October 13th, Lucy's was back along with its fishbowls!
On opening night, 21-year-old Syracuse University student Jisselle Garcia visited the bar. "The location itself is small but it kind of creates a sense of intimacy between everyone there," Garcia said. "It's not as overwhelming as some of the other bars can get."
Garcia and her friend Markell Reid, 21, are pictured drinking one of Lucy's most notorious drinks: the fishbowl. The name was given due to the shape of the container it comes in and the amount they give you.
What Jisselle misses most about the old location was the fact there were two bars that provided faster turnaround for drinks, but despite it taking about ten minutes to receive their fishbowl, she said she would be back to the new Lucy's for the fun atmosphere and music.
After his first visit to the new location, SU senior Pat Winton, says that he will probably find himself here more than the other surrounding bars on future nights.
"I prefer its atmosphere over the other bars on and around Marshall Street," Winton said. "I think they maintained that from the old Lucy's and I had a good time."
Others, like senior Sarah Wansor, aren't so keen on Lucy's new location commenting on how she missed the decorations that hung on the walls of the old location.
"I am not a fan of the stools lining the bar because it creates a more crowded area making it harder to order because people are sitting there resulting in slower service," Wansor said.
But despite the things she misses about the old location she is happy to have Lucy's back on campus. "I'm pumped it's there and I'm excited!"
We definitely miss the old Lucy's but can't wait to frequent the new spot, because you can only go to Harry's and DJ's so many times in one semester!
