A petition has been started to #SaveChucks from the University

This is probably the most Syracuse thing to ever happen since I’ve been here

A Syracuse student named Lexey Marie has started a petition, SAVE CHUCKS, on change.com. The petition comes after the announcement that Chuck’s would be closing prior to the end of the academic year, disappointing students and alumni alike despite the fact that the owner of Chuck’s, Stephen Theobald, is more than willing to move out of the 727 S. Crouse Avenue location.

The petition to Save Chuck’s

Chuck’s has been on the hill since 1970 and was voted one of the best college bars in the country. It’s the most popular bar for Syracuse students who are of age because it’s notoriously the only bar that will not let fakes slide by their doors. (Shout out for staying true to you, Chuck’s.)

Demolition of the complex that houses Chuck’s and Funk ‘n Waffles, another amazing business on the hill, could begin as soon as next month. The vote was approved in early February and will cost $40.5 million. However, the dates for both demolition and project completion are not confirmed, so it’s possible that Chuck’s could remain open for major sporting events such as March Madness. Chuck’s has confirmed that it will relocate to another space on the hill but Funk ‘n Waffles and Lucy’s have not confirmed.

Chuck’s is the bar to go on 21st birthdays and it holds so many memories for students dating back to 1970. It’s the place to be for huge basketball games and for trivia night. It’s the only bar most students will actually bring their parents to during visits. Chuck’s is the one place on the hill that is absolutely off-limits to students under 21 and it is absolutely ruining our lives to know that we won’t be able to go to the original location. With a legacy like this, it’s no wonder the movement to #savechucks is growing stronger by the day.
