ACC names Justyn Knight Performer of the Year

Knight runs cross country as well as indoor and outdoor track and field

Justyn Knight, junior Canadian long-distance runner and Social Work major in Falk College, has been named the ACC Performer of the Year for the 2016 cross country season. With one remaining season of eligibility, Knight saw enormous success during the season and post-season. According to www.cuse.com, he was “the individual champion at the NCAA Northeast Regional, ACC Championship, The Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational and Panorama Farms Invitational.” He was also the NCAA runner-up and was All-American five season in a row.

When cross country season is no longer in full swing, Knight is an indoor and outdoor track and field athlete, famous to the Syracuse University community for completing the 1500m during the 2016 outdoor track season without a shoe on. His track and field events include the 1500m, 3000m, 5000m, and 10,000m.

Justyn, you okay bro?

The Tab spoke briefly with Knight about his most memorable moment of the season. “Individually, my most memorable moment was finishing second at nationals. It meant so much too me to see all my hard work come together at the perfect time.” It’s very clear that Knight is a big team player, as he also talked about his team. “My most memorable moment as a team was our team winning ACC’s. We started the season a little rough, so pulling off that win in such a convincing fashion meant a lot to us. It was nice to share success as a team.”

Knight is one of four top ACC runners who will be returning for competition during the 2017-2018 academic year. The Tab looks forward to seeing him and the rest of the SU XC team destroy the conference next fall.
