Bandsnatcher Series: Thank God Sam showed up
Unlike Fetty, Sam Feldt didn’t ditch us
If you’ve ever listened to house music, you’ve probably heard a Sam Feldt Song. A lot of his popular remixes stem from Soundcloud, the music platform that hosts many up and coming singers. Here at Syracuse University, we were fortunate enough to have both Sam Feldt and CandleWeather of the dynamic dj duo, Hotel Garuda. The concert was held down in Schine Underground and was sold out in just a matter of days.
Hotel Garuda’s CandleWeather opened up for the first 30 minutes, then Sam took over for more than an hour. Feldt started his performance off by playing “Show me Love”. He played over 20 songs without stopping and got the crowd hyped for each one. With his long-lasting energy, he was jumping and dancing nonstop. His set included remixes of songs such as This Girl,Prayer in C, No Money,Hymn for the Weekend, and Lean on. Feldt also played a few older songs.
Although the show was sold out, the venue did not seem very crowded. There was no crazy rush to be right at the front either. Students were there to dance, and the music was their background music.
For those of you who are like me and have never attended an EDM festival or a house music concert, this event was different. I’m usually belting out words until my vocal chords feel sore but not that night. This event was for the dancers. People were dancing by themselves, practicing some type of leg shuffle, and ,bobbing their heads excessively. The whole show felt like an intense school dance more than a performance.
Unlike Fetty Wap who didn’t even show up to his performance, Sam Feldt’s appearance was extremely casual. While listening to Hotel Garuda, Sam just walked through the door and hung out by the front. It was so informal, many couldn’t believe that was him. After Hotel Garuda’s performance, the two performers hugged and talked for a bit. Throughout Feldt’s performance, CandleWeather kept popping out by the audience to dance and even took a few selfies with people (including myself). It was nice that he felt comfortable enough to dance like he was just another person in the audience.
After the performance, Sam Feldt and CandleWeather took pictures and chatted with the students for a few minutes. The two performers tweeted :
