Meet Maddie Brown, SU sophomore and rising star

She recently opened for Bebe Rehxa

Sophomore Maddie Brown is truly a star in the making. The SU sophomore had the opportunity to open for up-and-coming pop star Bebe Rehxa (best known for her collab with G-Eazy on the hit song, “Me, Myself, and I”) last month at Sharkey’s Bar and Grill in downtown Syracuse.

Although Maddie was excited for the opportunity to open for the star, she is certainly no stranger to showing off her talents by singing and  playing her guitar in front of a crowd. “I’ve basically been performing for people since I could talk,” she told The Tab.

As for her inspiration, she says lately the artists she’s loved listening to are Sara Barielles and Jack Garrett. In addition, Maddie also writes and records her own original music and covers, and plans on eventually coming out with a full album in the near future.

Maddie scored the opening gig through her friend who works for the radio station that sponsored the event,  Hot 107.9 Syracuse, which is owned by iHeart Radio. She also had the opportunity to perform with her with her friend and fellow singer, Eva Baldo.  The two songstresses covered “Toxic” by Britney Spears, “Let it Go” by James Bay, “Cold Water” by Justin Bieber, and “I Knew You Were Trouble” by Taylor Swift.”We had been practicing since a couple days before the performance. I was nervous leading up to it, but then once I got there, I felt fine,” said Brown.

Maddie is currently enrolled in the Bandier Program for the Music and Entertainment Industries (a highly-selective program in the School of Visual and Performing Arts). In the future, she hopes to attend law school and become an entertainment lawyer for a record label.
