BREAKING: SU alum Pearl Washington has passed away

Pearl Washington, 52, passed away today after a hard fight with cancer.

Washington was diagnosed last summer, and has since gone through various treatments.

Washington played for Orange Nation from 1983-1986. He ended his career ranked as the number one all time leader in assists at SU, and all these years later is still 3rd best all-time. Apparently, at the peak of his SU fame, a store printed T-shirts that read: “On the Eighth Day, God Created Pearl.”

Washington will long be remembered for his phenomenal basketball career.
