What to expect at this year’s Ottothon

SU raised $84,000 FTK in its first year

Raising money for kids with cancer and their families becomes a fun, memorable and rewarding experience thanks to “Ottothon.”

The second annual Ottothon event will take place on Friday, December 5th from noon until midnight in the Schine Student Center. The 12 hour dance marathon fundraiser raises money for Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital, and brings patients and the local campus community together for a fun, special and memorable event.

Dance marathon is a national movement at over 250 schools all raising money for the local children’s hospitals across the country, and Ottothon is ‘Cuse’s own, sepcial version of these nationwide fundraisers.

“This year, we have over 16 children from the hospital coming, tons of DJs, live entertainment, acapella groups, food from local vendors and more,” said creator and executive director Jillian Lynch, a junior.

Lynch said she was inspired to create a Dance Marathon event at SU even before she was a freshman. “I know people who were affected by childhood cancer and watched them go through it when I was much younger, ” Lynch said.

“Dance marathon is an easy way for college kids to get involved in a nationwide movement that happens on a local level,” she continued.

Last year, Ottothon took place on February 28 – March 1 from 6pm to 6am.

While the average first year dance marathon raises $18,000, ‘Cuse was able to raise $84,000. Only in our second year, we are the largest first-year dance marathon in the Northeast, and the third largest in the nation (Go ‘Cuse).

What’s more, Ottothon is now the largest philanthropy at SU.

Join the rest of the SU community by marking December 5th in your calendar and make your way to Schine in some comfortable shoes.

Let’s do this FTK.
