The softball team was hanging loose in Hawaii this weekend

It’s OK to be jel

The Stanford softball team arrived in sunny Hawaii Thursday afternoon and were pleasantly surprised by their beach side hotel.

They went straight to the beach for their first taste of beach time with a focus on evening out their softball farmers’ tans. Following their beaching adventure the team attended a Hawaiian luau and learned a lot about the local culture.

Essential cultural lessons such as how to form the proper “shaka”, Hula dance lessons from men in straw skirts, and even witnessing a crazy local throwing fire torches around came from the team’s Luau experience.

Surfs Up

Some of the team got up at 6:15am one morning to catch the best waves. The boards were way bigger than them but to ensure they fit right in they made sure to take a picture with the quintessential surfing van.

The team got to spend a lot of time exploring everything Hawaii had to offer – holding exotic parrots, dinner on the beach, and sunset watching were daily events during Stanford softball’s trip to Hawaii this past weekend.

They also found some time to play a little softball going 4-1 on the weekend hitting a team combined 10 homeruns. Maybe every Stanford team should take a trip to the Aloha State.

The girls on the team felt the relaxing trip came at the perfect time with Dead Week and finals week on the horizon.

Freshman outfielder Molly Fowkes said: “ Although I didn’t do much work on the trip I felt extremely relaxed for the first time in my Stanford experience.”
