Stanford’s new president: Who is Marc Tessier-Lavigne?

He starts in September

After countless emails throughout the year recruiting us to help the Stanford Board of Trustees decide on a new president, one has finally been announced.

Marc Tessier-Lavigne, the current president of Rockefeller University in New York, will take over for John Hennessy, who retires in September.

He’s a Canadian neuroscientist, former Stanford faculty, biotechnology executive, and academic leader and pioneer in the New York bioscience community.

Mr Tessier-Lavigne said:

“I look forward to rejoining the Stanford family next summer. In coming months, I plan to listen and learn from faculty, students, staff, trustees, and alumni to understand more fully the many opportunities and challenges facing the university, and to hear their aspirations for this great institution. I am excited to work with all members of our community to drive Stanford to even greater heights.”

He starts in September 2016.
