Former Rutgers football player Eric Legrand is receiving the ‘Ultimate Warrior’ award at this year’s Wrestlemania

He was paralyzed playing for the Scarlet Knights in 2010

Former Rutgers football player Eric Legrand will receive a prestigious award from the WWE for his “unwavering strength and perseverance.”

According to WWE, “The Warrior Award is presented to an individual who has exhibited unwavering strength and perseverance and who lives life with the courage and compassion that embodies the indomitable spirit of The Ultimate Warrior.”

Legrand was a Rutgers football player before an on-field accident in October 2010 left him paralyzed from the neck-down.

He suffered a severe spinal cord injury during a game against Army in MetLife stadium. He tackled the ball carrier after kick-off and was taken off the field only able to move his head.

Despite this, he went on to obtain his degree from Rutgers while rehabilitating and founded a charity called “Team Legrand” which works to search for the cure and improve the quality of life of those who are paralyzed. He is now a popular motivational speaker.

Legrand will receive the award at the 2017 WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on March 31st in Orlando, Florida.
