Empire State Building will glow scarlet red for Rutgers’ 250th anniversary

We’re too lit

The Empire State Building often displays different colored lights throughout the year, in addition to its usual white lights, for different events, holidays and charitable causes. But tonight, New York City’s most iconic skyscraper will be lit in scarlet red to pay tribute to Rutgers’ 250th anniversary.

As we know, today marks the 250th anniversary of when Rutgers was founded as Queen’s College on November 10, 1766, making us the eighth-oldest educational institution in the United States.

The building’s lighting will be part of other locations and Rutgers landmarks that will be “awash in scarlet” after sunset, including Werblin Recreation Center and Old Queens Campus.

Additionally, it is part of the larger, full-day celebrations of the university’s birthday across New Brunswick, Newark and Camden campuses including lectures from RU alumnus, the ringing of the Old Queens Bell at 2:50pm and fireworks.
