Suspicious package found on Douglass this morning

The area is now safe

Rutgers University issued a text today at 8:04 a.m warning students of a suspicious package found on the Douglass Parking Deck. As a result, the Douglass Student Center was evacuated, and buses were expecting delays.

There were various explosions throughout the New Jersey and New York areas during the weekend. Saturday morning in Seaside Park, a garbage can exploded in route of the Marine Corks charity 5k. No one was injured. The same night, there was a bombing in Chelsea that injured 29 people and authorities are in search of suspect Ahmad Khan Rahami. On Sunday near the Elizabeth train station, a backpack with explosives was found, with one that detonated as authorities were examining it with a bomb robot. No one was injured. The blasts caused transit delays throughout New Jersey and New York.

A text sent out at 9:59 a.m. deemed the area to be safe and the Douglass Parking Deck is now reopened.
