DA to seek death penalty in Alina Sheykhet’s murder

Her ex boyfriend, Matthew Darby, is accused of killing the student

The District Attorney for Sheykhet's case released a Notice of Intention on Thursday. The notice includes that "the defendant has a significant history of felony convictions involving the use or threat of violence to the person."

In addition, the notice states that Sheykhet was a witness to a separate felony the defendant committed, and was therefore killed so she could not testify. Sheykhet had a PFA against Darby at the time of her death.

Sheykhet was found dead in her bedroom on Cable Place on October 8. Matthew Darby was found in Myrtle Beach three days later and was arrested in connection to the murder.
