20-year-old Pitt student found dead in Oakland apartment, homicide investigation underway

She died of blunt force trauma

A 20-year-old woman was found dead this morning on Cable Place in Oakland.

A family friend confirmed to The Tab that the woman is Alina Sheykhet, a junior at the University of Pittsburgh. This was further confirmed by the Allegheny County medical examiner this evening.

Police are investigating her death as a homicide.

Sonya Toler, a Pittsburgh Police spokesperson, said: "At 8:56 a.m. Sunday, October 8, Paramedics and Zone 4 Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 3500 block of Cable Place in Oakland for a report that a female was found unresponsive.

"Upon arrival, officers discovered the 20-year-old female on the second floor of the residence. Paramedics pronounced her deceased at the scene from blunt force trauma. The Violent Crime Unit is continuing the investigation. "
