Students create new anti-shatter phone accessory

No more waking up to cracked screens

Have you ever dropped your phone and had it shatter because you couldn’t keep a good grip on it? Ever struggled to take a selfie for the same reason? Now there’s a solution.

Loophole Innovative Solutions is proud to announce their new product, ‘Loophole,’ a device devoted to individuals who face day-to-day struggles with dropping their cell phones.

This product can be easily applied to the back of any cell phone through the removal of adhesive tape, and can then be secured to your phone. For use, simply flip up the ring, slide your finger in, and you’re ready to go.

Loophole is an innovative product that has more than just one use. Loophole’s rubber ring technology allows for complete flexibility of the cell phone and users hand. The rubber ring also allows for the product to be used as a kickstand on any surface, or even to be hung from a hook. In addition, Loophole is designed to fit any case or phone.

We spoke to founder and CEO, Colgate University junior Patrick Crowe and Vice President, Towson junior Steven Stillwell. Crowe thought up Loophole after dropping and breaking multiple phones. “I realized that the bulky cases I had been using weren’t entirely effective. I needed a product that would prevent me from dropping my phone in the first place, not just cushion the fall.”

“Our goals are to raise enough money to make our version 2.0 with a swivel ball joint ring and a magnetic disc insert with an accompanying car air vent clip with a magnet ball at the end of it to attach your phone at any angle to use your phone hands-free in car rides. Our expectations are to hit our Kickstarter goal then begin to sell off our website, and get into a number of small stores as we grow.”

We asked Crowe and Stillwell what advice they would give young entrepreneurs like themselves. “Our advice would be to try it out! You won’t know until you know and the best way to make progress without putting yourself at risk to fail, is to ask as many people as you can about your idea before moving forward. You need to do your research and plan accordingly. It’s very helpful to get expert mentors or to join an entrepreneurial program,” Crowe told The Tab.

Stillwell added, “Follow your dreams and follow up on good ideas. Everyone has a great idea – aka ‘a million dollar idea’ –  but that doesn’t mean anything if they don’t follow up on it. Do the research first, and if it looks promising, go for it!”

Loophole will retail at the reasonable price of $12. The product will be available in colors such as black, white and silver. The product will eventually allow a customization option for large organizations, groups, or even a personal preference.

“We have received 25 percent of our funding goal in under 3 days on Kickstarter. We are only just beginning, but that is a great sign people like the product,” Stillwell told The Tab.

In a prideful manner, and attempt to create the foundation for more American manufacturing jobs, Loophole Innovative Solutions will be manufactured in New York, USA.
