Here’s why the anti-cop propaganda on campus is all wrong

This is just not OK

Another day, another clown who actually believes this kind of stuff.

This poster was hung over university-related posters by the library, by someone who is most likely associated with the chalk graffiti from a few days ago.

There is an absurd amount of misinformation and stuff taken out of context on this poster, in almost every sentence. So, let’s break this down, so that people don’t get their information confused.

There is no such thing as a good cop

Anyone who believes this really has a problem with doing research.  A simple Google search led me to this:

And this was just page 1.

It’s good cops that evict families from their homes

True, but this makes it seem like cops just show up to houses and kick people out.  People are evicted for reasons such as but not limited to, failure to pay bills, breaking a contract, refusing to leave, etc.

It’s good cops that lock homeless people in cages for sleeping

First off, they’re called jail cells. Second, it’s not like every cop does that. The only time I personally remember hearing about that was once, over a year ago.

It’s good cops who turn non-violent drug addicts into criminals

The only people who can turn someone into a criminal is the criminal him/herself.

It’s good cops who arrest starving people for taking what they need to survive

There are two ways to look at this. One could take the viewpoint that there is nothing wrong with that since all prisoners are provided with meals at no cost. One could also say that taking what isn’t yours is not acceptable, no matter your situation.

It’s good cops who deport our friends, families, and neighbors because of imaginary lines on a map

The lines may be imaginary, but the laws around them are not. You can’t ignore a law because you feel like it shouldn’t apply to you. If you cross the border illegally, you will be deported. That is not the fault of the cop in any way. My family is here because of legal immigration, clearly it’s not that difficult to not cross the border illegally.

What do police actually do? Protect private property, enforce systems of oppression, shut down political dissent, generate revenue

Actually, police protect private property, catch criminals, solve crimes, and provide security.

At least 40% of police officer families experience domestic violence, in contrast to 10% in the general population

I’m honestly impressed that whoever made this got something right. However, what does this have to do with anything? The statistic is disheartening, has nothing to do with the point that this person is unsuccessfully trying to prove.

Less than 1% of rapists even spend a day in jail, so what exactly are they protecting us from?

If more rapes were reported, more rapists would go to jail. This has nothing to do with cops. Here’s a short list of things that cops protect us from:

  • Murders
  • Assaults
  • Dumb drivers
  • Drunk drivers
  • Stoned drivers
  • IRS scams
  • FBI scams
  • Thieves
  • Violent protesters
  • Terrorists
  • And, unsurprisingly, the list goes on.

There are over 2 million people locked in cages (prisons) in the US right now, the highest prison population in recorded human history and every one of them was put there by a cop

The US prison population is the highest in American history, but that isn’t just the fault of a handful of cops. Here’s a list of people in prisons who deserve to be there:

  • Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the Boston Marathon bomber.
  • Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the underwear bomber.
  • Richard Reid, the shoe bomber.
  • Bernie Madoff, the guy who ran the most successful Ponzi scheme ever.
  • Every murderer, rapist, scam artist, child pornography distributor/producer/lover, person-beater, and thief ever

Shout out to the cops who put them behind bars, where they belong.

If you’re going to be anti-cop and want others to follow, maybe do some research before covering university sponsored posters with a message of hate and stupidity.
