Anthony DiNozzo is leaving NCIS and I’m devastated

Michael Weatherly’s beloved character, Tony, will be leaving after this season

Sad news is upon us: Tony DiNozzo (played by Michael Weatherly) is leaving NCIS.

He announced his departure in January, but as the season ends and the time is upon us, it is beginning to sting. DiNozzo is everyone’s favorite character on the show, bringing the quirky, flirty, fun vibe to a rather serious program.

However, his ability to be his flirty self is damaged by Ziva David’s (Cote de Pablo) exit, which added to his decision not to renew his contract after this season.

The two were a huge part of what made the NCIS series so endearing. The family atmosphere along with the sexual tension caused by Tony flirting and Ziva (for a while) shutting him down are the two aspects of the show that we all loved. Our hearts broke when Ziva left the show, ending with Tony DiNozzo and a passionate kiss (see 1:55).

Weatherly told TV Insider that he decided there were other things he should be doing like spending time with his wife and new baby. He also directed a documentary called “Jamaica Man” and has a production company called Solar Drive Productions that is based at CBS Studios. Though he may be moving on to other things, he sure does show love to his NCIS family.

The worst thing about losing DiNozzo is that we are losing the humor in NCIS. Sure, Abby can be pretty spunky and light-hearted, but most of the humor is or is bounced off of DiNozzo.

He is the absolute, without a doubt, best (and most attractive) character on the show, beating only the great Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Now all we have left is the heart-warming relationship between Abby and Ducky, and some of Weatherly’s theories.

The good news is that his DiNozzo personality is pretty much his real-life one. To continue to get weekly (or even daily) Tony jokes, follow him on Twitter.

Will the season end with Tony and Ziva reuniting as speculated? We can only hope. Tonight, the first of Tony’s final two episodes airs on CBS at 8pm and the final episode is at the same time next Tuesday, May 17.
