President Barron releases statement on Clery Act findings

With no mention of the $2.4 million fines

Today, President Eric Barron has released a statement in regards to the Final Program Review Determination from the U.S. Department of Education.

Barron chose to highlight the progress Penn State Administration has made since 2011, neglecting to mention the $2.4 million the university could end up owing in fines. He said in his letter to Penn State students, faculty and staff, “While regrettably, we cannot change the past, today the University has been recognized for significantly strengthening our programs since 2011.”

The fine is due to multiple violations including in relation to the Clery Act, which states that schools who receive federal funding must report any crimes to the state in an annual security report – and we all know what was missing from those reports.

Here’s to hopefully righting the wrongs.
