Everything that happened when Tim Kaine came to Penn State

He spoke for equality and a stronger America

Tim Kaine visited Penn State today to speak to students and remind them what’s at stake in this election.

Students started lining up to see Tim Kaine at 10am Friday morning in hopes of seeing today’s rally.

Tim Kaine is the Vice Presidential candidate for Hillary Clinton and has been mayor, a US senator, and a governor. The doors started to open at 12:30 at that time, the lines wrapped around The HUB.

Enough people attended to fill another viewing room in The HUB for his rally.

The rally opened up with a talk from Centre County Representative, Scott Conklin.

He said: “I know my place.. my place is standing where Hilary Clinton is going to fight for our place every day for the people that we are, because we know our place”.

Representative Michael Pipe also spoke at the Rally and Ricardo Rojas, a senior majoring in electrical engineering, spoke about diversity and why he supports Hilary Clinton as a candidate.

Ricardo Rojas, a senior majoring in Electrical Engineering, speaks about why he is voting for Hillary and uses his story to bring people together.

After Tim Kaine arrived he began with his speech about Hilary Clinton.

Kaine said it’s important that he talks to people in the Pennsylvania state because it’s a swing state, and therefore can determine if Hillary wins this election.

He said: “If we win Pennsylvania this race will go to Hillary Clinton and we will make history as the first woman president as the United States. This is part of the reason why I support Hilary”.

Kaine said he remembered the night he was asked to be Hillary’s vice president that he has had a lot of ‘strong women’ help him in his campaign and wanted to support such a ‘strong and compassionate leader’:

“We are entitled to a president that will put America first, not one that we wonder that he’s got another loyalty”.

Kaine then moved to focus on the main points of Hillary’s campaign.

He explained that she is working to help families and schools, work on the economy, help college become more affordable, and improve policy for American people.

“We got to have an economy that works for everyone and not just people at the top,” said Kaine when he spoke about her policies.

Kaine said we cannot rest until there’s an economy that’s, “not just about prosperity but prosperity that everyone can access.”

Kaine also talked about college education and its future.

“We have to grapple with what are we going to do make college more affordable… We ought to be able to make a commitment to students and their families that college should be debt free,” he said.

Kaine said he wants to also fight for equality and giving people more rights when they get into office.

“We can’t take anything for granted because – face it – this has been a season of surprises. We can’t take anything for granted because Hillary Clinton is trying to do something that has never been done,” he said.

If Hillary Clinton becomes the first woman president it will be no easy task.

“We’re the underdog until they call us the winner.

“The thing that unifies is that we’re underdog people,” he said.

Kaine reminded said that the Democratic Party is not someone who just passes on by.

“We’re going to roll up our sleeves and see what it is that we can do,” he said.

“Hillary Clinton is not somebody who walks on by… there’s folks out there who need our help and that’s what this election is about,” he said.

Kaine ended his speech with this quote

“It’s about people, it’s about towns, it’s about cities,it’s about communities, it’s about neighborhoods, it’s about people who need our help and electing Hillary Clinton is the way to be that good Samaritan and provide that help and do the work that we have to do to make our nation great.”
