BREAKING: THON to phase out canning trips by THON 2019

Canning will soon no longer be a part of THON’s fundraising model

THON has announced that by THON 2019 there will no longer be canning trips, having only two next year and one the following. After a full review of the safety procedures surrounding canning last fall, concerns about travel safety were brought to light.

“We have worked extensively to maintain canning as a part of THON’s fundraising model for multiple years now but conversations with Penn State Student Affairs and the Office of University Development, the decision to eliminate canning was a difficult, but necessary decision in the best interest of THON and its volunteers moving forward,” said THON 2016 & THON 2017 Executive Directors Katie Mailey and Austin Sommerer.

The full letter to the THON community can be found here.

Trip & Driver Registration, Driver e-Course Trainings, Alternative Transportation, and canning at intersections were the four areas that were delegated in need of improvement.
