How to survive Blue and White

When it’s finally warm again and we forget how to tailgate responsibly

Blue and White weekend is easily the best weekend of the year. After a typical State College winter, we are all in desperate need of fresh air and of course, football. You think you might be a well-seasoned pro after all the tailgates you’ve been through, but we all seem out of practice after a few months’ hiatus.

Here are a few things to keep in mind this weekend:

Have a big breakfast

There is no shame in stopping at McDonald’s on your way to the IM fields. You are going to need to line your stomach with the greasy goodness if you want to make it through this day.

Wear Sunscreen

This may sound like a total “mom” move, but your skin is important. Blue and White weekend always seems to be (knock on wood) a beautiful warm and sunny day. We shed our parkas, leaving our delicate skin exposed, so it’s crucial to take care of it.

Drink lots of water

You’ll probably be drinking lots of beer, all day in the hot sun. This is a sure way to become dehydrated and maybe even get sick, cutting the weekend short. Besides, the more water you drink, the more beer you’ll be able to have. Win win.

Wear sunglasses

You are probably going to be wasted and it is probably going to be very noticeable. The sunglasses will help cover up your dazed gaze, and also, will obviously protect your eyes.

Let Loose

This is one of the last carefree weekends you will have before finals week and one of the last you’ll be able to spend with your college friends until next semester (or if you’re a graduating senior… we won’t get there. Just drink til you forget), so don’t hold back! You’re going to miss Dear Old State, trust me.
