BREAKING: Oregon fires football coach Mark Helfrich

He led the Ducks to a 4-8 record this year

Oregon football has officially fired coach Mark Helfrich.

The announcement came via a press release from Athletic Director Rob Mosely after the two met Tuesday night.

Mosley said: “We want to thank Mark for his eight years with the University of Oregon and appreciate his efforts on behalf of Oregon football.”

Helfrich leaves the gridiron after four seasons, the latest putting the Ducks at a 4-8 record this year and a 34-24 loss at Oregon State last Saturday.

He said: “It is a great honor to have served as the head football coach at the University of Oregon.”

“It is with respect and disappointment that we receive this decision. Plain and simple — we didn’t win enough games this season.”

According to Oregonlive.com, this is the first coach Oregon has fired in 40 years.

Helfrich’s replacement coach has yet to be named.
