BREAKING: Hundreds of UO students join South Eugene High School protest at EMU

They’re chanting ‘love Trumps hate’

UO students are joining a march headed for the EMU started by students from South Eugene High school.

They’re chanting, ‘build bridges not walls’ and ‘love Trumps hate’.

The protest began with demonstrators walking to the EMU, where they stayed for about ten minutes, continuing to chant and singing John Lennon’s, ‘Imagine’.

They’re now walking back across campus, potentially back to South Eugene High School.

A UO senior taking part in the protest, said:  “My reaction from last night was anger. I’m fucking pissed off and then I proceeded to over drink. My goal is to fight fascism and I think violence is necessary”.

Kira, senior said: “We’re hoping to raise awareness for the situation, to stand together and create a safe environment where everyone feels included and represented”.

Demonstrators also chalked messages of support on the ground and held up signs saying, ‘Let Love Win’.

More details to follow.
