UO ranked in top third of the World University Rankings

Not bad, Ducks

The Center of World University Rankings (CWUR) has published a list with the University of Oregon as the 342nd best college in the world.

Unfortunately, this is a drop compared to last years’ 339th ranking.

The CWUR list includes 1000 colleges from all over the world, featuring schools from every continent.

According to the CWUR’s methodology, rankings are determined by national rank as well as eight factors: the quality of education, alumni employment, quality of faculty, number of publications appearing in reputable journals, influence of research papers appearing in highly-influential journals, number of cited research papers, broad impact of the institution, and number of international patents filed each year.

Each factor is represented by a rank created by a formula that they use.

On the list, UO has a national ranking of 121.

The quality of education is determined by a measure of an institution’s number of alumni who have won major awards, medals, and prizes in relation to the size of the school.  The Ducks come in at a rank of 358.

Alumni Employment is calculated by the average number of alumni who hold CEO positions since 2011 at the world’s top 2000 public companies in relation to the school’s size.  UO scored a rank of 594+.

Research is also a factor.  The number of cited research papers is created by the number of most cited publications under the following; Science Citation Index Expanded, Social Sciences Citation Index, and Arts & Humanities Citation Index.  Oregon ranks at 268.

The broad impact of the institution is also calculated.  This is measured by the productivity and impact of published work.  Oregon scored a rank of 290.

With their formula and the following rankings, the University of Oregon scored a 45.68 out of 100.

With its qualifications, the University of Oregon has a lot to offer as they continue to add opportunities for students of all disciplines, making it one of the best institutions in the world.
