Armed robbery occurs in broad daylight near Ohio State’s campus

Three victims were robbed at gunpoint Thursday around noon on Summit St. between Lane and Northwood

At around 12 pm on Thursday, May 11th,  three victims were robbed in their home at gunpoint by three men dressed in dark clothing, wearing bandannas over their faces.  The crime occurred off campus on Summit St. between Lane and Northwood Avenues.

The suspects fled the scene in a stolen car belonging to one of the victims, a white 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis.  The Columbus Police Division is investigating the crime and encourages anyone with information relating to the incident to call 614-645-4545.

Neighbors of the victims were out on their patios just hours after the crime took place.  Will McGrath, who lives on the opposite side of Summit St. spoke to The Tab saying, “Yeah they live about 6 houses down on the other side of the street.  I guess three guys went in there, robbed them and stole their car.  We didn’t see anything though.” Other neighbors were not even aware that a crime had taken place.

The Columbus Police Division is aware that being the victim of a crime is no one’s fault, but they are encouraging students to stay safe by being cautious and looking out for one another.

Take advantage of resources around campus like Safe Ride and the blue light phone poles if need be. Crime tends to rise during the summer months, and with less people on campus now than usual, its key that we all look out for each other.
