Man gets trolled on Twitter after joking about OSU attack

This is why you shouldn’t post your email on Twitter

At 9:58 this morning Buckeye Alert sent a message to students about  an emergency on the Columbus campus. What was believed to be an active shooter at first has been confirmed as an attacker who used a car and knife to injure multiple students.

The incident received an outpouring of support from the Columbus community, and even a few celebrities reached out on social media to voice their sympathies. However, one man thought it would be hilarious to turn it into a joke about the Ohio State and Michigan rivalry.

The tweet quickly started to circulate around the Twittersphere and people are fighting back the only way they know how–with subscriptions to daily animal emails and a little dirt digging.

It’s a wonderful thing when people come together on the internet

When it comes to people like this guy, we all know that it’s nearly impossible to make them see the error of their ways with words. So the internet had a much better idea–to expose him and make his life a little more complicated.

Some people decided to take a more light-hearted approach, using the e-mail he posted publicly on Twitter to sign him up for email subscriptions of all sorts of things like daily e-mails containing facts about sloths and cats.

A few people decided to make their replies short and sweet.

Others decided to fight back with a more tactful approach–exposing the man behind the tweet and his past of violence. One twitter user sent out a tweet with Jacob’s mug shot and a story written after Jacobs was arrested for assaulting a woman who rejected his marriage proposal. The tweet has been shared by multiple users. Some have gone on a mission to find the employer of the self-proclaimed “rapper” in an effort to have him fired.

One man’s tweet doesn’t reflect the attitudes of Michigan fans

Some people will be quick to jump on Michigan because of this man’s idiotic and insensitive tweet–it’s a low blow but it has nothing to do with the university or their fans. Regardless of the rivalry between Ohio State and Michigan, there has been a great amount of support shown by the university and its students–including cornerback Jourdan Lewis.

The University of Michigan Athletics Twitter account also shared their wishes that the people on campus remained safe this morning. We may be rivals, but at the end of the day we’re all able to come together when it matters the most.

Forget the negative and focus on the positive

After events like those that occurred this morning there are always going to be people who think it’s appropriate to make insensitive jokes and remarks. In the midst of the negativity it’s important to focus on the positive more than we might usually. Now is the time to be thankful that the outcome was not worse and it is the time for us to stay strong. Not only did the Columbus community come together today, but the country came together for Ohio State too.

Some will say that the prayers and supportive words aren’t enough, but as an Ohio State student I want everyone who has shown their support to know that I thank you from the bottom of my heart. It will be difficult to go back to class tomorrow. We all want to believe that our campus won’t be the next to experience a tragedy like this one, but today we are reminded that we are not invincible.
