Why PJ’s is the most underrated spot on campus

The first time I had a Fat Bitch was glorious.

Now before you jump to conclusions about me, a Fat Bitch is one of the many “Fat” sandwiches PJ’s is famous for. The monstrous creations at PJ’s make for the perfect pre or post party meal, or if you’d rather visit the shop at 15 Frambes Avenue in the light of day there’s no shortage of options for a study break snack.

Here are some of the reasons PJ’s is the best food joint on campus.

The Lowkey Atmosphere

Don’t like fighting with crowds after a night of heavy drinking and questionable decisions? Then PJ’s is the place for you. It’s like the drunk mecca for college kids. They even call themselves the “Home of the Drunks.” From the street PJ’s looks something like a mix between a carry out and a diner, giving it this weird, homey feeling no one can quite explain. Go in, order your food, have a seat, and enjoy with no hassle.

They aren’t going to judge you for your post party smeared makeup or that questionable beer stain on your t-shirt at 3 a.m. The most annoying part of the visit is deciding what to order from their perfectly curated menu. Did I mention they deliver? Don’t get in your car searching for food after a long night of partying. Be smart and call up PJ’s. They’ll drop off everything you need at your front door, or maybe even in the middle of an all night rager if that’s your style.

The Variety

The menu is expansive and intimidating. Forget popping into Wendy’s on the way back to your apartment for sub-par service and semi-decent food. Take all of the food you like from any bar, mac n’ cheese wedges, buffalo chicken tenders, mozzarella sticks, and beer fries, smother them in ranch and slap them all on a bun, now you have a Fat Bitch. It’s one of 40+ specialty sandwiches to choose from.

You might swear by a different hangover cure, but anyone whose had PJ’s during their OSU career knows that any of the Fat sandwiches will cure your alcohol induced munchies and that dreaded next day hangover migraine. If you tend to have more of a sweet tooth try the funnel cake fries complete with a side of caramel dipping sauce.

Left for the party already without your own booze? PJ’s has got your back on that one too. It’s a one stop shop where you can pick up a 12-pack of your favorite cheap beer, fill up your stomach with delicious food, and check up on the football scores on your way to wherever you’re going.

It Won’t Break the Bank

Whether you’re stopping in to grab a case of beer or you’re just really hungry, PJ’s is in your budget. Not sure if you can finish a whole Fat sandwich? Go halfsies with your best friend and save yourselves a little bit of cash for next weekend’s festivities. Or you could stash away whatever you can’t eat in the fridge when you get home and save it for dinner tomorrow. That is if your roommates don’t get to it first.

PJ’s is a short walk from a lot of the bars on campus and you get the most bang for your buck. Every bun is busting with an excess of food and you’ll never complain that you’ve been skimped. The sandwiches are so heavy you could use them as dumbbells if you can’t get to the gym. There are plenty of tasty sides to choose from if a $9 sandwich still isn’t in the budget after rent, utilities, and the car insurance payment have been taken care of for the month.

Make It a Tradition

When you’re in the middle of college you hardly spend time thinking about what you’ll remember fondly years after graduation. Late night runs to PJ’s for snacks during midterms or making it your meeting place when you want to catch up with a friend are easy ways to create your own OSU tradition.

There’s no pressure to get in and get out like a traditional restaurant and no need to worry that your colorful language might offend someone because most of the customers are college kids with a sailor’s vocabulary anyway. It’s a comfortable place to let go of some stress when the pressures of class start getting to you, because there’s nothing venting to a good friend or a little comfort food can’t fix.

It might seem like your run of the mill carry out, but PJ’s is a jack of all trades, fulfilling your alcohol needs, stuffing your stomach with delicious food, and providing a laid-back atmosphere where you can reminisce about last night’s shenanigans with your best friend.
