An open letter to people who write open letters

Nobody cares

I see enough of these shared every week that if I got a dollar for each one, I could fund a lavish lifestyle for myself.

People share articles all the time, and that’s how they get popular. But whoever came up with the “An Open Letter To” is making my Facebook full of more bullshit than I can handle. So here we go.

To all the “An Open Letter To’s,”

While you mean well, you are all giving off the same message. You are ungrateful and have regret in your life. But let’s be real with ourselves, life’s too short for that baby. Every last one of you gives off a vibe that you are loathing on the past and mistakes fun times you have had in your life.

Or you are incredibly depressing and send us back to 2007 to when we went through our “goth” and “emo” phases.

The people who share these stories make me cringe. Do you really give two shits about your high school ex’s brother’s/sister’s boy/girlfriend to feel the need to write an open letter to him or her?

That friendship was forced and you know it.

Plus you know damn well you and your ex don’t talk except for the possibly “happy birthday” text you exchange each year if you’re remotely civil.

Typical “this was us in high school and now we don’t talk anymore” example of a photo found in an open letter to

Nobody cares that you’re posting an open letter to the person who didn’t love you back. Do you want to know why? BECAUSE YOU ARE BEA-YOU-TIFUL and should love yaself, Bieber is getting everyone to do it so just hop on the bandwagon.

If you really cared you would grow a pair and go tell this person how you really feel instead of posting it in the hopes that whoever it is aimed at sees it, until you forget things ended badly and you two blocked all forms of communication so jokes on you!

You also loved all the sports you took part in and all the friends you have or used to have. But you grew up and you have endless tagged photos of those memories to look back on instead of a silly letter. And please stray away from the letters to your former self because none of us want to see what we looked like from 6th-9th grade. You’re older and wiser and stopped doing surveys on Facebook and MySpace has since died a little so there is simply no need for these little letters to be shared.

Did you want a cool TimeHop notification of sharing that “A Letter To My 13-Year-Old Self” in a year just to be reminded that you’re STILL better than that? Probably not.

So while you may think you are going to reflect on all those open letters you’re sharing and get in touch with the people you tagged in it or they were directed towards, you’re not. It’s time to move on and just cherish a memory rather than spam everyone’s Facebook with these damn things.

Yours forever,

A student with better things to do than read all of those letters anyway
