Mayor de Blasio has endorsed NYU SLAM’s campaign to have a student on the Board of Trustees

He voiced his support yesterday at a SLAM event

While visiting his alma-mater yesterday, Mayor Bill de Blasio expressed his support for the NYU Student Labor Action Movement's continuing campaign to get a student representative on the NYU Board of Trustees.

This came after the students in SLAM delivered a letter, signed by NYU students and SLAM members to President Andrew Hamilton's office in Bobst. This letter expressed the need and urgency for a student on the board and expressed the organization's disappointment in the lack of action taken by President Hamilton to make this happen.

This campaign has been a focus of SLAM for several semesters now and has been a focus of student activists at NYU for decades. The support of arguably New York City's most visible and influential politician can likely only move the action forward.
