College students are being sent phishing scams disguised as Google docs

Do NOT click the link

Colleges around the country including NYU are being targeted in a phishing scam involving an attempted shared google doc. The email has a subject line that reads “X has shared a google doc with you” and attempts to share a regular google doc, and then redirects you to an unknown page. Apparently once you click the document and log into your account, it attempts to steal personal information and then sends the same email to other people in your account contacts.

NYU student Raquel Vasinkevich detailed, “The sender’s email is a fake student email with the subject headline “hhhhhhhh.” Once (I) clicked on it, it turned out to be a student email at machinator.com, and redirects to a page that says “no internet connection.”

If you receive an email like this, immediately contact the university IT department for steps to protect your computer and info.
