NYU grad student defrauded the federal government of more than $1 million in financial aid
It has been going on for the past five years
NYU grad student,Frank Harrison, 48, has been found guilty of defrauding the federal government out of over $1million of student loans, it was revealed on Friday.
According to US Attorney Preet Bharara, Frank Harrison, who received two masters degrees from NYU, tricked federal loan programs in providing him with loans by submitting forged and fraudulent letters from a series of doctors, one of his professors and even his landlord
According to court documents, Harrison apologized while appearing in court to plead guilty on February 9th.
“From about 2008 to 2013, in Manhattan, I made false statements to my university for the purpose of receiving loans. I knew my statements were false at the time and I am sorry.”
On Wednesday he was sentenced to eighteen months in prison, as well as being ordered to pay restitution of $1,170,694.
