NYU warns of ‘thousands’ attending Bernie rally in WSP tomorrow

We are definitely gonna feel the Bern

NYU Students were emailed on Monday about the upcoming Bernie Sanders rally planned for tomorrow in Washington Square Park. It is estimated to draw “thousands of people” which given Bernie’s popularity at NYU isn’t surprising at all. Currently 18,000 people have stated that they are going on the Facebook page, with an additional 24,000 interested.

The email promised that despite the rally “all of NYU’s classes and events will go forward as scheduled”. NYPD will be present at the event and will be checking NYU IDs. They also said: “There will be a police presence throughout the area around the park to ensure public safety at the event”.

At 7pm the GOTV Rally Concert will begin. Along with Bernie, special guests such as Vampire Weekend, Spike Lee, Rosario Dawson, Shailene Woodley, Linda Sarsour, Tim Robbins and Graham Nash will also be there to show their support.

The email from Robert Berne (our Executive Vice President for Health) advises students to plan accordingly – allow for delays in the time it take to get to and from classes since streets, sidewalks and subways will likely be crowded. Additionally, there will be police present around and in the park during the day.
