A 32-year-old female walking on the side walk at the intersection was struck by yellow cab that jumped the curb, she was pinned under the vehicle. She was taken to Bellevue Hospital, she in critical condition at this time. The investigation is ongoing and the driver remained on scene.”

A car crash where a pedestrian is believed to have been seriously injured has just occurred on 8th Street and University Place.

Unconfirmed reports from witnesses at Weinstein said a person was trapped under the car.

Three fire trucks and one police car are on the scene dealing with the incident, which happened shortly before 11am, and police are on the scene.

One eyewitnesses told us: “A taxi cab jumped the curb and one person was taken to the hospital.”

Another witness, Olga Ushakova, said: “I was walking on the other side of the street and I heard a crash and loads of screams. When I turned around to the other side I saw a taxi cab riding up on the sidewalk. Lots of people wre lucky because they literally jumped from the car.

“Then I saw it hit something or someone. I didn’t see exactly what happened but when it stopped I came closer and there was no driver in the car, but something was underneath. When I tried to see what was stuck underneath it was too dark, but we were asked by the construction people to move back.”

NYU freshman Carina Sturm said: “I think the driver had a seizure. My friends told me someone is trapped under the car.”
